There isn't always someone there to catch your kite when you come in. So instead of walking home with your kite attached, or waiting for the wind to die, you can learn to self land your kite.
When self landing, the kite can sometimes self relaunch putting you, your kite and other beachgoers in danger so it's reccomended you practice launching the kite with someone there for support in light conditions.
The stronger the wind gets, the harder it is to land the kite safely on your own, and it's impossible to do in 40knots. So judge your conditions and skill before attempting to self land the kite.
Trick Steps
1
Leash onto your safety line - not suicide mode. This meaning putting the hook straight onto the ring that it is designed to go on- without any other things attached
2
Depower your kite to a suitable level. Take the kite to the edge of the window and rest it its side. If it's a friendly delta kite it should just sit there
3
Let go of the bar and unhook so that you are still holding onto the chicken loop with your back hand
4
Walk upwind a few meters, keeping tension in the lines so that the kite remains on its side
5
With your front hand, grab the power line that is on top. Pull this line
6
Your kite should then fall onto it's leading edge. With a bit of practice you'll be getting it pointing straight into the wind. Perfect!
